Wi-Fi Sensor Attaches to Teeth

HIPAA is one of the most talked about compliance acts among information security professionals. In the health care field HIPAA and HITECH establish the rules regarding securing patient information, as well as guide organizational policy. A new innovation is in the works that is of direct concern to the information assurance professionals that guide organizational policy.

Researchers at the National Taiwan University are currently working on a Wi-Fi enabled sensor that is directly embedded onto patients’ teeth for the purpose of reporting statistics to the patient’s physician.

By recording jaw motions related to chewing, drinking, coughing, smoking, etc., this sensor will potentially capture data and send that information directly to your health care provider’s smartphone.
